Preproduction

                           Preproduction

For my portfolio project, me and my group(Zhanae, Evicka, Ja'Niyah) are creating a horror movie opening scene that will follow all the conventions of the horror genre. Before we started this project, we picked are groups by interviewing our classmates, once we found the people we wanted to be in are groups based on the questions we asked. The next day we were giving a group contract that we had to sign and give back. Right after that, that's when we actually started on the planning process, we made a short story that consist of what our story will pertain followed by the different plot points. Once we turned in our story, we research different things in the horror movie genre to understand what these films consist of, then we did our script and storyboard.

                                                         Storyboard

For the storyboard portion we made a to make a joint word document that consisted of a chart that had the number of the shot, mise-en-scene,  cinematography, sound, editing, and a brief description of what is happening and meaning created. We all took on one of the categories since its four of us in the group and then after that we came up with the description. The next day we added information to the storyboard on studio binder then we submitted it and once we got feedback on it from the teacher we fixed it up and resubmitted it.

Mise-en-scene

When doing the mise-en-scene for this horror genre we considered some common horror film locations and we decided to make this opening scene outside of our school, inside our school, and the library. The props that will be used in this film is things like books, pencil, and paper. In order for us to give this opening scene some feeling we used natural lighting. Since we are filming this at school the "costumes" are going to be our cta uniforms with little to no makeup.

Cinematography

The cinematography will be the biggest aspect to the project since we have film the stuff to put it together, so we have from Feb 21-March 4th to do this and during this time period we must take into consideration of how much shots we have to get done within the scenes as well as scheduling time to film outside of school if needed. When we film theses shots with either the computer or our phones, we would be doing medium shots, close-up/extreme close-up shots, establishing shot, and low angle shots.

Sound

The sound is one of the key component to these horror films that helps create a mood/feeling to conventionally bring it together. For most of these shots it will consist of dialogue between the actors using a shot reverse shot that either is filmed on camera/audio recording system, the use of silence, and in the beginning for the establishing shot it would use a score of music that has human voice to make it unsettling for the audience.
